MessageMiriam Bucheli is an artist-scientist whose work bridges scientific inquiry and visual storytelling. Born in Ecuador, she moved to the U.S. in her late teens, ultimately settling on the East Coast for nearly four decades. She holds a PhD Molecular Genetics & Microbiology from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, NJ, and worked as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and Assistant Research Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School before joining Elsevier as a Scientific Editor. Trained in 3D animation at Gnomon in California, the Vancouver Film School, and VIA Animation College in Denmark, she also completed a certificate in Natural Science Illustration at RISD. Miriam now specializes in botanical art, often blending traditional illustration with digital and AR techniques to explore nature’s fragile beauty and the emotional landscapes shaped by environmental and societal challenges. Her artwork has been exhibited at FPAC Art Space, Midway Art Studios, Google, Cambridge Art Association, CCTV Cambridge, and the Lunder Art Center. She has received awards from the NIH, ACS, NSF, and several arts councils including those of Boston, Cambridge, and Massachusetts. She curated and Depression and Psychedelics and SEEING, fine arts and science exhibits, and is currently curating Larger Than Life at the Atlantic Wharf Gallery.
Miriam splits her time between Boston and winters in Menorca, where she is connecting with its emerging international art scene and exploring future cultural exchange opportunities.
