This young maggie has appropriated a Chinoiserie lounge chair. The blue and white aesthetic of Chinoiserie is still very much loved today, 350 after it reached peak popularity when King Louis XIV of France built the Trianon de Porcelaine, a five-pavilion structure bedecked with blue-and-white tilework, on the grounds of the Palace of Versailles in 1671. Chinoiserie was invented by Europeans who were left to imagine the wonders of far-flung countries – which they were unable to visit to see for themselves.
