I was born in Folkestone on the Kent Coast and now live near Canterbury.
Growing up art, dance, music and literature were the subjects that I excelled at and didn't feel like study to me. Later on I taught the piano for a while and also wrote a book, late a night, when the children were in bed. But when the children became older I yearned to be more creative again and taught myself to paint in oils. My Art took on a renewed vigour when the children left home.
Initially I experimented with portraiture but soon found the person, the story and the narrative were the key to my compositional inspiration. Moving forward this has combined, figurative studies with classical fiction, music and movement in narrative works.
My art influences are Norman Rockwell, Caillebotte, Caravaggio, Zurbaran, Louis Majorelle, Sorrolla, Millais, Klimt, Sargent, Tissot, Rosetti, Waterhouse and the Pre-Raphaelite painters.
Statement
My medium is oil on canvas/board and I paint in very thin layers and glazes. This enables my paintings to build and develop in strength and for me to alter and develop as I go along.
I hope you enjoy my paintings, many are available as beautiful Giclee Prints. I am also available for commissions.
What's next? I would love to experiment with some larger statement figurative pieces for foyers and entrances. That would be very cool.
