Suenos del Cielo / Dreams of Heaven
- Acrylic On Canvas
- Martha Rodriguez
Suenos del Cielo / Dreams of Heaven was taken from a dream I had while still in the hospital for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I had been given drugs that caused me to hallucinate. In my "dream state" I saw my back facing a mirror with two women by my side. The women appeared to be waiting for something. When I woke up from this dream. I was overwhelmed with the thought of who the women were and why were they waiting. After much discussion with friends, I decided to look at them as a positive force, as angels watching after me in my weakened state. The sun above in the painting is a source of strength and growth. The Aztec icons on the sides of the dresser symbolize my indigenous heritage which is always with me. The mirror I'm looking into is simply a reminder I must look within to build my strength and accept my weaknesses.
