Originally called, "Waterline Inspiration for Change."
My idea was to portray a woman just below the surface of water, floating. Here was the explanation I wrote for the painting:
Buoyancy is floating in water. As your body presses down into the water, water pressure pushes back and you rise up. If you jump into a deep pool, your buoyancy brings you back to the surface. If you want to control this pattern of sinking and rising, then you employ swimming techniques to sink faster or reach the surface sooner. A comfort and acceptance that this pattern exists will also make buoyancy easier to achieve.
Life can also be a series of jumping in, sinking and returning to the surface. We all face experiences where we can be overwhelmed, floundering in a difficult situation. Accepting that life is a series of sinking and rising helps you to understand the depths and know that we will eventually rise again.
