Erika Person is an abstract artist living in Los Angeles. A former opera singer, Erika's work is deeply influenced by words and music. Her intuitive "Hidden Word" pieces begin with a single word, line of poetry, mantra or song lyric, which leads to a spontaneous creative process. Following the deaths of her parents in 2021 and 2022, she was inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi as a metaphor for healing after loss. The continuing use of gold in her work honors the loss of her parents and the end of her operatic career, and symbolizes resilience and the ongoing and intentional mending of broken hearts. Most recently, The Emotional Kraken has debuted as Erika's rawest and most honest art.
When she's not painting, Erika maintains a small voice studio and grief-informed life coaching practice. She works to create stronger communities by serving on the board of directors of her local women's club, adores her patient & saintly husband of nearly 20 years, and is obsessed with the best cats ever, Sage & Poppy.
