Erika Kohr Island has been working with handblown glass for nearly 25 years melding traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistic expression.
MessageThe image of fishermen and crab floats in my work, speaks of a relentless commitment to one’s life work, and to a willingness to show up to that purpose over and over again regardless of outcome. The numbers that are sandblasted into the sides of the floats represent rare dates that I was able to work in my glass studio during a period that my time was increasingly needed to help my aging parents.
- Subject Matter: Crab fishing floats with dates sandcarved into them, hung from an old hook.
