MessageI am mostly self-taught. I learned visual art in elementary and high school. I attended a fine arts school, Downsview Secondary School in North York, Ontario.
I majored in visual art, music and theatre.
I was the lead role in my graduating year of high school in the production: “We Have Always Lived in the Castle” Directed by.… Ruth Green.… Music Direction by...David Richards… Visual Art…”A Collection of Fine Arts Teachers”.
I graduated from Downsview Secondary Grade 13 and attended York University in General Arts First Year.
I love dance, I love writing. My first loves.
I intended to start 2nd year at York University, North York, Ontario, majoring in Visual Arts and/or Dance.
Sadly, I could not continue because I had little family support, emotionally and financially. I had to drop out of University to care for my mother who was unwell.
I then lived in downtown Toronto for 3 years and worked in the Restaurant called Renaissance Cafe. After 3 years of working as a server and finishing as a manager, I travelled across Canada by train by myself to move to Vancouver, British Columbia, it was 1983.
Living in Steveston, BC I discovered tradespeople, artists, shipwrights, carpenters, welders and farmers.
In 2008, after being at home with my sons and raising a family, I began to take a great interest in welding. I attended UAPIC, United Association Piping College of BC, UA 170, the Piping Union’s Private College.
I studied steel fabrication and graduated with honours and a CWB Certification.
Additionally, I involved myself with political projects that focused on advocacy for food security, coal and communities, conservation and farming.
Statement
My inspiration to create visual art comes from my Roman Catholic Traditional Faith, family, nature, community, and current contemporary subjects.
I value experimentation in my creative process. I engage with materials that ignite my imagination. Visions, dreams and contemplation play a strong role in my innovative approach.
I collaborate with artists, I enjoy working with ideas on public art projects that positively effect people and communities.
Additionally, I use typography and graphic design elements in my work.
I believe words are alive—imbued with thousands of years of meaning.
Letters express their own kind of symbology and speak to every person uniquely.
In my creating I endeavor to make the invisible visible.
