Created from: Twelve Centuries of English Poetry and Prose, published 1910. This book belonged to a young man that attended Blackstone Military Academy in Virginia from 1923 – 1925. There are a lot of notes in this books and this young man, who has written his name as John or Jack Franklin Moore, obvious very much enjoyed the poetry inside. I chose an owl for the familiar because they are commonly used to represent wisdom as well as change, transformation, intuitive development and self-actualization. Being at the academy, John surely would transform from a boy to a man and also embrace the beauty of life through poetry. The flowers sewn on cover represent the tenderness of poetry and the cut outs mimic the grant style of old academia. He is the perfect balance of soft and tough, wise and playful, romantic and stoic.
