I wanted to bring in elements from the other two paintings of Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts to tie the pieces together. There is even a hint of the Mad Hatter to come in the future with the “in this style” tag and tiny hats cup. The bleeding hearts flower, (often appearing in my work) is a personal nod to the Queen and the emotion I feel for her. The flamingo scissors on the teacup, along with the painted white rose, also appears in the painting I did of her.
I wanted to express a sense of Alice’s anxiousness and frustration during the Mad Tea Party with her holding a stack of delicate tea cups. A similar feeling about life, trying to ‘hold it all together’ and the burden we all carry these days.
