A sixth-generation Californian, I moved to NYC and choreographed and performed dance in New York NY for seven years beginning at Merce Cunningham Studio, assisting with editing Cunningham dance videos along side giants like John Cage and Charles Atlas. I also studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. My 3-dimensional collage works ‘Fortunes & Charms’, were accepted by the Guggenheim Museum curatorial staff for inclusion/sale at the Guggenheim Museum Store.
I have been a student of formal sacred art studying with internationally esteemed Tibetan artist Tenzing Rigdol, and others. My fine art is in several international collections.
After four decades living in Colorado, Cleveland Ohio, and NYC, recently returned to northern California establishing Sönam studio, where I have been painting landscapes, and creating collage : Fortunes & Charms. I live happily with my husband, Frederic and our cat, 'Sensei'.
Statement
ART - The End of Karma.
Because all phenomena are related to each other continuously, infallibly or in other words, there is no mistake about what is happening. Everything is right and appropriate in this very moment. Art is a way for this truth to be experienced on many personal and universal levels. One could say, art is a co-incidental union. In the Tibetan language of buddhism, the word tendröl describes this sense of coincidence most clearly and helpfully as a kind of auspicious coincidence. Art is tendröl, it is, ... a kind of blessing. The joy and heartfelt wish to contribute to and benefit others is the dedication I make everyday through my studio-meditation practice—.
The use of auspicious coincidence* informs and tethers all my creative efforts. A meeting together of forms: color, light, texture, sound, movement, and awareness with the one perceiving forms, come together in a single fortunate-never-before moment. Just as one is often freed of the gravity of our histories, i.e., our karma, for a moment in the face of natures' beauty, creativity too has this beautiful power of freeing us. The end of karma is the essence of the teachings in buddhism. Art has been a portal to this freedom for me.
