Statement
Our lives are all so busy with what feels like constant motion. Through my portraits, I am collecting moments that show a beautiful, ordinary scene in a very intimate way. I am interested in depicting a moment in time that hints at the sitter’s interior thoughts, thoughts that are strong, deep and universal. I enjoy creating a mirror for our very human feelings but with different faces; we are far from alone. I am so taken with the intensity of the teenage years and with that comes the need to explore and portray my experience of being woman/wife/mother. My roles are ever changing as my children grow up. These experiences are so powerful but rarely unique. Every sitter: my children, husband, self-portraits, friends and strangers become a vehicle to isolate a feeling, memory, state of being to reflect onto the viewer. I want to elicit an understanding, a cringe, a smile or at least a nod. To see oneself mirrored or have a memory brought to mind is powerful.
