This 5 panel hanging is an impressionistic weaving depicting the five life giving rivers that flow in the Bhubaneshwar and Fakirpur area. Using only natural fibres, both spun and unspun I have conveyed the gentle plains, mountains and expansive sky of the coastal area of Odisha.
There is approximately 200 hours of creation in this piece. It was the first project I took on for the exhibition. It started with an idea sketched into my journal and then took form as a full size illustration from which I wove. Although I had an idea of the fibre I was using, at the weaving stage the piece starts to take on a life of it's own and fibres I hadn't thought of then became important to work with.
From the idea to the journal, then the illustration and finally the woven panels the project has grown to the beautiful piece you are looking at.
