MessageStatement
In a world dominated by words, Elizabeth is far more interested in what she can express beyond words, what stories she can tell behind words, without words. Underpinning Elizabeth’s portrait and seascape paintings, is her fundamental desire for that felt experience of beauty, to keep looking until she finds it, to feel it, create it and express it.
"When I paint, it feels very similar to digging in the soil, or chopping vegetables and eating them. It is physical, sensual, visceral, beyond the intellect and words.
My paintings are my unique and very personal expression of how I see the world. Luscious, buttery oils are my medium. Colour is my language. I love the whole process of painting, from finding my subject and composition, to mixing the colours to brushing, pushing, and spreading the thick paint all over the canvas.”
Having grown up in the south of England, then 25 years in France where she raised her family, Elizabeth now finds herself in a remote part of the world - Margaret River in Western Australia. Right on the wild and windy edge of a vast country looking straight out over the Indian Ocean, this is where she has made her home and paints, fed by extraordinary natural beauty and a wide diversity of people and faces.
Since 2017 Elizabeth has opened her studio doors to the public as part of the yearly Margaret River Region Open Studios two-week event, both at The Farm Margaret River, and from her home studio. Throughout the rest of the year her studio is open by appointment.
Elizabeth's paintings have found homes all around the world - in Australia, France, England, United States, Argentina, Ireland, Canada…
