Statement

I grew up in the majestic Hudson Valley of New York. Now, living in the Green Mountains of Vermont, I am incredibly fortunate to continue to be surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

As an artist, it is my desire to share what I see as a passionate observer of the world around me - the dramatic way light, usually sunlight, transforms our natural world making ordinary scenes extraordinary.  The colors created by this light, as well as the reflections and movement of light and shadows endlessly fascinate me. It is my intent, as an artist studying the nature around me, to share some of this amazing beauty and my response to it in my paintings of landscapes, seascapes, and street scenes.

Both the atmosphere and the quality of light affect and reveal the endless hidden colors of nature. My use of bold/bright color in my realistic paintings and the techniques of both loose brushwork as well as palette knife application of the paint create expressive painterly qualities and help to convey a relaxed sense of calm, hopefulness, and beauty.

Captivated by my subject, my paintings are expressions of my vision of our natural world and my desire to communicate this. My materials of choice are primarily oil paints on linen panels.

I have been an artist my entire life. My beloved Gram was an artist and oil painter. She introduced me to artmaking when I was very young and encouraged my exploration of art. From this childhood love of drawing and painting, the numerous art classes of my youth, my degree from Cornell University in Design & Environmental Analysis and a career in the field of Interior Design, I returned to oil painting.

My studies with a number of highly respected artists, teachers and mentors have included workshops, classes and /or private lessons.

My paintings celebrate the quiet beauty of New England. As a lifelong artist, I'm drawn to the region's charming towns and landscapes, capturing their enduring grace. My representational style aims to evoke a sense of peace and tranquility, reflecting my deep appreciation for the natural world.
