Elena Turgeneva
London
My joyful artworks would brighten any space. I love to paint enchanted landscapes, being inspired by nature, architecture , folk culture and ornaments.
MessageElena Turgeneva, whose joyful work would brighten and decorate any space, is a London-based artist, originated from Russia. After graduating from Moscow Steel and Alloys University and having a successful career as a patent lawyer, Elena took up painting when she was about 40. She was inspired by a serendipitous visit to her son`s art college – and her interest in figurative and abstract painting was born. Further on her imagination progressed and Elena decided to put on canvas some images of math formulae and developed an art project “Science Pop Art”, where she would combine her interest in science and art.
Besides that, Elena works in more realistic style, enjoying open air sessions to paint out our incredible world, using different techniques and mixed media.
She participated in numerous contemporary art exhibitions in Russia, France, Germany and UK and had several solo exhibitions.
Nowadays Elena likes to paint landscapes, especially urban ones. Her favourite cities are Moscow and London, and she is inspired by old and modern architecture as well as folk culture and ornaments. Elena likes to mix realistic views with fantasy, creating enigmatic, sometimes faux-naïve artworks.
Statement
As an artist, I draw inspiration from my interests in science, art and culture, observing the world through a vibrant and dynamic lens. My artistic approach is deeply influenced by the interplay of elements in my surroundings, where I seek the relationships between objects and spaces through a spectrum of colour. I aim to communicate the pulse of life, offering viewers a visual dialogue that bridges the gap between the structured logic of science and the expressive freedom of art.
While oil remains my favoured medium, I also experiment with other materials such as wool and silk, crafting pieces, that range from interior panels to wearable designs. My work is not confined to the studio; I often engage in plein air painting, connecting with nature and capturing the energy of the cities that inspire me—particularly Moscow and London. These urban environments, with their distinct rhythms and atmospheres, serve as a continual source of inspiration.
