When I sought out to create a shorebird series, my inspiration was the little Plovers foraging along the water line at the beach. They run away from the water as a wave gently rolls in and then follow it out while pecking at the sand for coquinas, insects and other sand-based critters that might rise to the surface of the sand...it's dinner time for Plovers.
Here they peck, run and stare at me while I watch them. I guess the one little Plover isn't amused by my proximity, staring back at me.
And while most parts of Sarasota's beaches, where I live, play, work, and find creative inspiration, do not have palm trees at the shoreline, I thought I'd throw some into the view for fun.
Enjoy this painting. It's a one-of-a-kind, whimsical view of Plovers dining at the shoreline.
