I painted this a few years back, and it is a composite of Elkhorn Slough and the Salinas Hills. Why did I do that, add two different locations into one? Well, artistic license, I guess. Sometimes I make a composition, and it begs for added eye movement or interest. If all is fair in love and war, then my loving painting gives me the freedom to do whatever I like! I did that in this case. Usually, when a person wants a painting of mine, it is because it reminds them of an experience they have had. The motivation may be a remembrance of a marriage proposal at Point Lobos or, in this case, a mom who went for a kayak ride through the Elkhorn Slough pickleweed with her son. It is a birthday present for him, and now I am pleased to have added a family heirloom, I love that!
