Statement
Penniman says, “One of the most extraordinary things about being an artist is to immerse me in nature or a foreign culture. I love how nature comes alive after painting for a while. The same thing happens with people who see me painting quietly. Art provides a fantastic cross-cultural experience that allows me to penetrate deeper into different cultures and affirm my belief that the family of man is one. My idealized landscapes engage the viewer to inhabit them and bring them peace and emotional healing. My institutional-sized paintings are calming and spiritually uplifting. All original paintings are also offered as giclées on stretched canvas and framed. When I look at nature’s beauty, harmony, and variety, I am inspired to paint, my soul is enriched, and I hope my art will do that for others. I like seeing how my interpretation of a location, artistic skills, and emotions are manifested in art; it is sometimes magical and beyond my understanding. When I was the most tested in my life, art saved me. If I can get the viewer to a higher place spiritually and emotionally with my paintings and contributions in general, then I have accomplished my mission and fulfilled my part of being given an artistic gift.
