The distinctly angular “Vauban” theme, which although it has been the strongest line of direction in my artistic thinking and practice during the past few years, has also been supplemented for the past two by more gestural forms of creative expression so that I could also progress in another direction. Of course it was inevitable that the two would run in parallel then eventually merge, and this artwork is an example of that with the strangely patterned, angled pre-painted pieces of collage applied to the freely painted impression of a turbulent green sea, breaking waves and cresting foam… all on an A1-size / 84 x 59 cm sheet of Canson Imagine 200 gm / 120 lb art paper.
NB: Seahorse (which can be written as sea-horse or sea horse) is the name given to 45 species of small marine fish in the genus Hippocampus, the word’s roots being from the Ancient Greek hippokampos, itself from hippos meaning "horse" and kampos meaning "sea monster".
