Petal-like shapes and gentle stems emerge from layered veils of soft color, suggesting a bouquet just beyond focus rather than a literal flower arrangement. Hints of blossom, leaf, and bud drift in and out of view, created through translucent washes, scraped passages, and delicate marks that feel both organic and spontaneous. The composition holds the sense of flowers caught in a moment of stillness—more like the memory of a bloom than a direct depiction—inviting the viewer to slow down and feel the rhythm of growth, fade, and renewal. It feels tender, calm, and quietly uplifting—like catching the last light on a vase of flowers and holding that softness in your mind.
I was inspired to break from my painting of non-representational pieces to do something different. I decided to do this series of florals as it is something I rarely paint. These florals are different from any I have painted before and were a real joy to do.
