此作是目前常玉油畫作品中唯一以竹為主題之作品，構圖排列組合相當用心，左角上的一搓竹葉是精采佈局，用筆則是標準的中國書法，以國畫的介字組合表現，枝幹的用筆亦然，並以藍黑色呈現竹葉；竹節大筆刷過，乾溼筆表達層次，設色仍是常玉一貫的手法，在一個單純的底色上以兩個色彩表現，造成直接且明亮的視覺效果，整幅畫作所營造的空間感除了空靈更有一濃濃相思及思鄉。
This piece is currently the only one among Sanyu oil paintings that revolves around the theme of bamboo. The composition and arrangement are meticulously crafted, with the cluster of bamboo leaves in the upper left corner particularly well-placed. The brushwork follows the standards of Chinese calligraphy, employing strokes reminiscent of traditional Chinese painting techniques, especially in the portrayal of the branches and stems, which are rendered in a blue-black hue to depict the bamboo leaves. The strokes for the bamboo joints are bold, with variations in wetness and dryness to convey depth. The coloring technique remains consistent with Sanyu signature style, employing only two colors on a simple background to create a direct and vibrant visual impact. The spatial quality evoked by the entire painting is not only ethereal but also imbued with a profound sense of longing.
