Steam Trawler, Thomas Whalen is a reduction woodcut that was created in Don's studio that occupied the back portion of his first gallery, Piscataqua Fine Arts, on Ceres Street, in Portsmouth, NH. The subject, a Boston fishing trawler named Thomas Whalen, was initially depicted as a tempera painting as part of a series of Boston Harbor studies done in the spring of 1968. This is one of three reductions woodcuts actualized from the Boston Harbor studies.
