Ionia, Snowed In Limited Edition of 20
The vessel Ionia is a salt freighter that would frequent Portsmouth Harbor. The design for the reduction woodcut was drawn directly on the woodblock; therefore, the image is reversed. For those that have known Portsmouth in recent years past, The Dolphin Striker restaurant, Thai Bistro, the Moran Tugs, and The Piscataqua River Bridge are recorded. The printing of this reduction woodcut was done in Don Gorvett's Chestnut Road studio on his American French tool etching press in Ogunquit, Maine. About a year later, he opened his first gallery in Portsmouth on Ceres Street. Don's work at this time was shown at the Nancy W Barrett Gallery on Market Street.
