Harbor Fantasy Limited Edition of 37
In Gloucester Harbor, behind Rocky Neck, is the inner harbor. Italian salt barks, fishing schooners, and pilot tugs are among the ships that were frequently seen in the harbor. The city of Gloucester is silhouetted against a backdrop of church steeples and the wooded hills of distant Magnolia. The design is based on a 1905 panoramic photo by H. Peabody as seen from Banner Hill, a granite outcropping that overlooks Gloucester Harbor. The scene is of Gloucester at its zenith.
The reduction woodcut 'Harbor Fantasy,' presented as a folding Shoji screen, and the woodblock are in the Peabody Essex Museum's collection. The study for this woodcut is in a private collection. The MFA Boston also has an edition of Harbor Fantasy in its collection.
