Bow Street, Riverside - Limited Edition of 17
Bow Street, Riverside, is the view from the top-floor apartment at 115 Market Street in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Brad Hawthorne, the building manager at the time, suggested to Don that he draw the view from the apartment's large window.
The view of the back side of Bow Street's brick warehouses, as seen from the top of 115 Market Street, is a collection of random firewalls, chimneys, and windows with rhythms and motion. An intriguing aspect is the random juxtaposition of falling light on the facades of the old buildings. The drawings serve as a visual documentation of a section of Portsmouth’s historic riverfront.
Bow Street evolved from an early 18th-century pathway that connected Ceres Street to what is now Prescott Park. Its brick warehouses were built after a devastating fire on December 24, 1806. Today, the buildings continue to adapt to modern conveniences under the guidance of the Portsmouth Historic Commission.
