The woodblock used for the reduction woodcut 'The State Pier Revisited' has slight traces of color that are in the finished woodcut print. The design is based on a tempera painting from a series celebrating Boston Harbor as it was in the spring of 1967. What is left on the block is the last and darkest color on the print.
About woodblocks
Don's sense of visual beauty extends to the texture and surface of the block as it does to the print. The blocks are cut skillfully and with great care. In cutting the block, drawing and sculpting come together. The finished woodblock and how it looks is very important to the artist. Most woodblocks are for sale. We will sell a woodblock with the purchase of the corresponding reduction woodcut print. Please contact us for availability and pricing.
