Major contributors to the Gloucester fishing industry were Italian migrants. The skilled fishermen who settled in Cape Ann during the late 19th century formed a fleet of fishing vessels. When Don arrived in Gloucester in 1973, there was but one of these vessels in the Harbor, dating to the 1930s. Don was intrigued by the vessel because it did not look like any other fishing boat in the harbor. Its construction was different and painted a flat gray.
