Artists Jeff Weaver and Don Gorvett were commissioned to paint a design in the cabin of the fishing vessel Sea Fox. Years later, while Don was exploring Portsmouth, New Hampshire, for drawing subjects, he came across the Sea Fox again and created an elaborate drawing. At that time, the vessel was dismantled and for sale at the fisherman’s co-op on Pierce Island. The “Sea Fox” motif is recognized in four woodcuts, most recently in 2019 with the woodcut Maritime Trio and in 2018 with the reduction woodcut Sea Fox on an Evening Tide. The motif also appears in the reduction woodcut "A Memory of Vincent Cove" (2004), set in an imaginative setting for the vessel in Gloucester's now-gone Vincent Cove.
