Dune Estuary is a color reduction woodcut whose design originates from an earlier woodcut. The original prints did not stay in the artist's possession, but the block did. In 2022, Don transferred the remains of the original block to a new wood block and proceeded to reinvent the image using eleven colors. The atmospheric tone of the image is the result of the elaborate sky. Beneath the distinctive cloud dome, the dunes and empty river basin with abandoned vessels unfold. A horizontal village is in the distance, and memories of jetties and dune fences surround the riverbed. In the foreground is a carefully crafted Banks dory rigged for sail. Dories were stacked on decks of fishing schooners, and when at sea, the dory would be set adrift with two men who would set trolls and fish.
