Having immigrated to the United States from Colombia in 1999 due to violence and personal threats to his life, Diego has overcome significant challenges and legal obstacles to become a naturalized citizen. This accomplishment is a source of great pride and gratitude, as it has shaped his personal growth and artistic evolution. His cultural background offers a unique perspective through which he views art, enabling him to approach the experiences of others with empathy and respect.
Diego has always had an affinity for the creative process. He is also a seasoned user experience and visual designer, with extensive experience creating digital products for clients across a variety of industries. "I really enjoy drawing from inspiration and turning ideas into something tangible, useful, and pleasing to the eye, whether digitally or by hand. However, I find that creating art by hand is a more direct vehicle between my mind and the physical world."
Diego’s work has been exhibited in numerous locations and galleries in North Carolina, on billboards throughout Charlotte, and currently in prominent digital displays in Times Square, New York City, in 2025. He has done interviews with local networks about his artistic journey and is an active advocate for the arts in his city.
Statement
My art explores structure, presence, and experience. I capture quiet beauty in still life, vastness in landscapes, and purity in abstraction, striving for thoughtful order. Each canvas blends light, color, and form harmoniously.
To me, the canvas is a conversation between inner and outer worlds, seen and imagined. My process is dynamic: in still life, I distill domestic spaces and everyday objects into geometric studies of light and structure. In nature, I attempt to capture its scale, weaving organic flow into rhythmic patterns.
Perceiving reality and reinventing what is drives my work. By creating moments of heightened awareness, I aim to transcend representation, inviting viewers into stillness, as I strive to leave a lasting impression amidst life’s flow.
