About Diane Durant

Diane Durant is an abstract impressionist painter whose artistic journey has been shaped by a lifetime in the creative arts. With a 40-year career as a Script Supervisor in the film industry, Diane's keen eye for detail and storytelling has seamlessly transitioned into the world of painting, where she captures emotion and movement with bold, expressive strokes.

Born and raised on the sun-soaked beaches of Santa Monica, California, Diane was immersed in a family of artists and entertainers. With a father who worked as a film editor, a mother who graced the screen as an actress, one brother behind the lens as a photographer, and another deeply involved in the world of film locations, she humorously refers to her family as a "quirky bunch of Carnies."

Diane’s passion for painting ignited unexpectedly on a film set. While working on the indie film The Face of Love, she was captivated by the artwork chosen to represent the protagonist’s creative world. Unable to resist, she purchased two of the paintings directly from the set. Her appreciation deepened further while filming Real Steel in Detroit, where she found herself mesmerized by the paintings of Chu Hui Pak displayed at Cobo Arena. These moments of artistic inspiration led her to pick up brushes, paint, and canvas, setting her on a path of continuous learning and exploration.

With every town she filmed in, Diane sought out art classes, refining her technique and developing a distinctive voice on the canvas. Currently living in Atlanta, Georgia, and embracing this artistic evolution, she creates pieces that evoke both passion and presence. Diane delights in creating art that resonates, brings energy and beauty to the spaces they inhabit.

Statement

About the Artist

I’m an abstract impressionist painter based in Atlanta, Georgia. After a 40-year career as a Script Supervisor in the film industry, I transitioned into painting—bringing with me a deep sensitivity to rhythm, emotion, and story. I grew up in Santa Monica in a creative, eccentric family I lovingly call a “quirky bunch of Carnies,” and creativity has always been part of my life.

My passion for painting began on the set of The Face of Love and deepened while filming Real Steel, where I was inspired by the work of Chu Hui Pak. From there, I began taking art classes in every town I worked in, slowly building a visual language of my own.

I use the canvas to tell bold—and sometimes very subtle—abstract stories of movement. Starting with a loose composition, I build layer upon layer until the canvas reveals its own pulse—emotions made physical: the rush of soaring, the weight of falling, the ache that fills you, the cry that has no sound. Each painting becomes a visible rhythm, an intuitive dance.

Now painting full-time, I create work that brings energy and presence to the spaces they inhabit. I find great joy in knowing that my paintings resonate with others—offering a sense of recognition, movement, and connection.
