Message
Madonna and child is a mixed media work that includes painting on canvas for the background with an icon and prayer attached. I visited Christ in the Desert Monastery in 2019 the week before Thanksgiving,, and found the icon in their gift shop. The brothers there pray seven times a day everyday, and there was such a feeling of peace and beauty in that place. The monastery is in the Chama Canyon, in a very remote are and high altitude. It is a wilderness and a place of extreme beauty. Georgia O'Keeffe was involved in the monastery's beginnings, and supported them as friends and as a benefactor.
I was moved and attracted to the icons in the gift shop. This one in particular reminded me of my daughter and her first child, my first grandchild.
I hope that this artwork brings peace to all who see it.
