Detaveine was born and raised in the ever-changing city of Little Rock, Arkansas. From a timid cartoon-tracer to a quiet but competent Graphic Artist, and everything in between. Detaveine has dipped his toes into traditional artistry, art education, video editing and effects, digital animation, furniture design, and lastly graphic design. You might be wondering what any of these have in common but the answer is a simple one. Tay is just in love with the process of creating. He graduated from Central High and began attending University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he had initially enrolled with the purpose of becoming an art educator but quickly realized that he didn’t want to be tied down to such a narrow career path. Detaveine swapped his major to studio art with a minor in digital graphics and from there he decided to spread his creative wings and get involved with a little bit of every art form that piqued his interest. This includes everything mentioned above as well as printmaking, figure drawing, even digital fabrication. He is currently still enrolled at UALR focusing on primarily graphic design, but who knows where he’ll take his love for the creative process next.

Statement
If I were asked what I believe is the foundation of my work, I would say that I’m a translator. I take the words and ideas of those that have hired me and I make them a reality. Whether it be something tangible like business cards, or a meaningful visual like the logos I create to represent a client's company.
My process of applying a visual to a vision normally begins with getting a general theme. I start with simple concepts like colors, fonts, and templates or sizes. I move on afterwards to a few rough sketches to home in on the format that best suits the work or client’s wishes. This sketch step should honestly get the second most time from any designer because it's what will encapsulate most of the creative process. Being able to tackle multiple “do’s” and “don'ts” in a design at once by creating multiple concepts is something that is indispensable to me as a designer.
Seeing how people react to their ideas coming to paper in more than just words is something that I’ve grown to enjoy as an artist as well. It’s the feeling that I helped someone translate their language into something that everyone around them will understand. Communication is an important skill for any artist. If I can deliver a visual message I feel like I’ve successfully accomplished a goal. I think that making the world a more understanding place is something that everyone should strive for.
