A highly stylised image of the crater Meteoria in Söderfjärden outside the city of Vasa in Finland.
Not until there were overhead flight photos available did the residents of Söderfjärden realise that there was something special about their fields. Then scientists became interested in the shape and determined it was the site of a very old crater. Lots of soil samples were taken over the years and it is now believed that a meteor struck down abut 520 miljon years ago.
