This artwork is based on a photo of a flower cart on a street in Paris. There are hours and hours of
work in creating the flowers and leaves which are made of Angelina fibers ironed onto cotton,
embroidered with machine stitching, sewn onto a dark purple velvet background. In addition, I
crocheted small flowers out of coloured metal wire and attached those flowers with invisible thread
to the larger flowers.
The background fabric is one of my handprinted cotton fabrics. I fussy-cut the trees from a
commercial cotton and the rocks also from a commercial cotton. The wheels are strips of velvet
and a floral ribbon sewn onto the backing rocks. Except for the flowers and leaves which are hand
sewn to the velvet, the other fabrics are fused to the painted background fabric.
The art quilt was created in a challenge in my art quilter’s group and has won many awards in our
local guild exhibitions.
