Immediately after moving back to Wichita in 2022, OpenStudios gave me the artist-in-residence grant to Botanica gardens. I wanted to take my work a new direction. My goal was to go into the gardens, wander and wonder, draw or paint whatever seemed especially beautiful and numinous.

I gave myself permission to do bad work and unfinished work. The goal was simply to show up and work. The watercolors and pastel drawings evolved into the "Sacred Geometry" series, which I also call "Inspirited Nature." The initial inspiration for this artwork was the koi pond in the Chinese Garden at Botanica.
