Delona Seserman
Newark, DE
I see my art as a shared experience between my emotions and the viewers' response to what I am expressing.
MessageDelona Seserman is a contemporary mixed media artist who lives and works in Wilmington, Delaware. A native of Brasov, Romania, she started to paint when she was only four years old, under the guidance of her father, an accomplished musician, and painter. He taught her that a real, true artist does not need to wait for inspiration or the right materials. “‘ If you feel like drawing, just do it…on a napkin, on any piece of paper, on the sand’’, he said.
Delona earned a diploma in visual arts and interior decoration from The Art school in Brasov and an MS in teaching from the University of Bucharest in Romania.
After moving to the USA in 1991, she continued to study interior design, Feng Shui, and energy work. In 1996 she started in New Jersey her decorative painting and interior design company Adris Group. For more than sixteen years she executed interior design projects throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York and completed numerous murals, faux finishes, and decorative painting for residential and hospitality clients. In 2011, Delona moved to Delaware where she dedicates her time to painting, photography, and teaching.
The artist loves long walks in nature and draws her inspiration from the surroundings. The photographs she takes during her escapes are the starting point of the creative process. Her work is an exploration of textures and the numerous detailed lines and marks talk about her favorite narratives: nature, cartography, and spiritual themes.
Delona’s artwork has been shown in exhibitions in the USA, France, and Romania. Her latest solo exhibitions were in Cannes, France in September 2019 and in Romania, October 2019. Also, in 2019 she was part of the Blue Biennial held in her native city Brasov in Romania. The artist’s work can be found in private collections in the USA, France, Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Israel, Canada, and New Zealand.
Statement
My work represents a constant dialogue between the human condition and the world we inhabit. I find peace when I am surrounded by nature and the presence of trees grounds, protects and heals me. From nature, I collect not only visual inspiration but an emotional understanding of my aspirations, conflicts, desires, and limitations.
Mainly abstract, my style can easily embrace figurative elements. Playing with a variety of textures, overlapping layers and creating marks, I open a dialogue with my viewers.
I had been always fascinated by the prints traced in the patina of time, here I find authenticity and endurance. I love painting the nostalgic atmosphere that exudes from an ancient wall, a faded fresco, or a time-worn gothic arch. These elements supported by the nature theme represent the background of my work.
The versatility of the mixed media combinations assists my continued desire of exploring and obtaining new effects. I often use plaster, gold leaf, dry pigment, oils, acrylics, collage, pastels as well as pencils, and markers for subtle details. And the magic happens!
