About the Artist
Deborah Setser is an artist with a passion for teaching and community involvement. She is an active member of the Palette of Roses Art League of Tyler Texas and the Mineola League of the Arts (mlota). She serves as the Painters Guild Coordinator at Mineola League of the Arts, where she curates an annual art show and maintains the Painters Guild educational program.
Deborah finds great peace and comfort while painting. She remains fascinated with the act of taking paint and placing it on a flat surface to create an image to look 3-D by the act of creating an illusion with paint. She enjoys her life of creating and selling artwork.
Deborah is a commissioned artist in landscape and portraiture and enjoys impressionism as well as realism. Deborah values her own continued education and attends classes and workshops to improve her skills. Currently, she is studying realism at the Evolve Art Academy under Kevin Murphy.
Since 2012, Deborah has taught painting to students of all ages. Witnessing the joy of painting and creating in her students has been a source of great satisfaction for her. Deborah breaks down painting principles and processes into simple steps with easy-to-understand applications. She believes that teaching has made her a better artist, and she is passionate about guiding her students in their artistic journeys. Currently, Deborah teaches at Mineola League of the Arts and offers private painting lessons.
Art is Deborah's second career after healthcare, where she has many years of experience as a consultant in hospital accreditation and teaching nursing and auxiliary staff in the hospital setting. She discovered her love of painting in 2009 after a close artist friend taught her how to paint. For Deborah, creating art has been deeply healing and freeing.
She believes that God used painting to heal her from past trauma. Now, she paints to share her experience of God as the one who delivered her from a life of trauma. Pray and painting goes hand in hand with this artist as she feels the closest to God while prayer painting. Deborah feels blessed to practice as an artist in Tyler, Texas, and to be surrounded by her loving family.
Statement
I am a commissioned artist specializing in landscape and portraiture, with a keen interest in both impressionism and realism. My experience also includes mural painting. Though I had an interest in drawing from a young age, my artistic development took place much later in life. I began learning to paint from a close friend and continued to improve through self-taught methods, including books and trial and error. Later, I took classes and workshops that helped me improve my skills significantly. Currently, I am enrolled in the Evolve Art Academy program under the tutelage of Kevin Murphy. I have been teaching art to students aged six and up since 2012, and I continue to do so at the Mineola League of the Arts in Mineola, Texas.
