I'm a Self-Taught Abstract Encaustic Artist based in Atlanta, Ga who’s known for Photo based Florals and Encaustic Mixed Media Floral Abstracts. I draw inspiration from nature, color play, patterns, and textures.
My artistic career started at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in New York City witha full scholarship. Then moved on into the world of Photography. I've been an Independent Freelance Photographer for more than 28 years in Atlanta working with Interior Designers, Publishers, Editorial and Corporate clients. About 12 years ago, I began prioritizing her painting practice. I show up to the studio every day, excited to “let out” what is envisioned in my mind. I've exhibited with Lowe Gallery, Matre Gallery, Encaustic Art Institute, dkGallery and currently with Reinike Gallery in Atlanta and River Gallery in Chattanooga, TN as well as her paintings being in Private & Corporate collections

Statement
Influenced by years of being a professional photographer, I characterize my paintings as Portraiture. They are photo-based encaustics and colorful mixed media encaustic abstracts on wood panel.
Why Flowers? Because they are strong yet fragile and beautiful for just a short time. I want to preserve their image, capture it by adding depth and texture that can only be done, I feel, with wax. I want to draw in the viewer, to explore the layers and to generate a wonder.
Sometimes I make them gritty, sometimes sweet, intuitive, some with an agenda and some not, some paintings are oversized with sharp details, some whimsical with bold color, some have texture and imperfections softened by my hand. I paint with encaustic medium, dry pigment, inks, cold wax, oil sticks and varnish adding and subtracting. Scraping back to reveal what’s underneath or keep it buried creating a bit of mystery. There’s an excitement working with hot wax and a blowtorch, its unpredictable at times.
This is what inspires me.
