- A Walk in the Woods
- Glass, hot worked, kiln formed
- 10 x 10 x 0.5 in
A walk in the woods, surrounded by the color green. Ferns , moss, emerging leaves. It's dazzling with the light filtering through the tree canopy and the deep, cool purple shadows... to sit by creek where the water makes a little pool with your bare feet on the soft moss...listening to birds sing in the soft spring air.
Tech Notes, This piece required a fair bit of planning. The sparkling green glass is a rare vintage glass given to me by a dear glass artist friend. I've cut small leaves from it with a scrolling diamond ring saw. Meanwhile I loaded my vitrograph kiln, a small kiln suspended from the ceiling in the studio. It has a hole in the bottom for the glass to flow out. Cobalt and green glass were heated to 1600 degrees, then I twisted the two molten glass streams together as they poured from the bottom of the kiln. The resulting glass was used to form the layers of vines and the flowing surface textures on the glass panel. I drew the woman with layers of cobalt powder. A jewel like color beloved since the Egyptians first began working glass 3000 years ago.
