It is magical the way everyone looks blue at night under the moon with moonbeams dancing along the edges of hair and skin. I was trying to capture a little of that magic with this work. Blue Midnight is a thick glass block, formed with translucent, iridized blue glass, gold leaf moon and 24K gold accents on hair. Cobalt glass powder drawing. Multiple trips through the kiln to merge layers by heating to molten temperatures and cooling slowly. When the firings were complete the work had a nail biting encounter with my diamond-bladed glass saw. Cut ting the work into a square revealed the layers. Ready to hang, the work is mounted on a French cleat on a thick wooden panel with a hand rubbed silver leaf finish.
