Debora Stewart is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America and in the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies. She is also the author of Abstract Art Painting: Expressions in Mixed Media. Debora has taught many workshops throughout the US on abstraction. Her work is represented by national galleries and her pastels have been included in many juried and invitational exhibits. She lives in Iowa.
Statement
Through the use of soft pastels on paper and acrylic on canvas, my work is a reflection of the raw, untamed beauty found in nature. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant colors and organic shapes that surround me, my paintings exude energy and a sense of liveliness that can only come from a deep connection with the natural world.
My subject matter is chosen based on my personal experiences in nature and the vivid memories of colors that have left a lasting impression on me. Each scene I paint is a representation of the internal emotions and reactions I feel when immersed in the beauty of the outdoors.
I am particularly drawn to scenes that evoke a sense of movement and vitality, incorporating elements such as flowers, light, and shadows to create dynamic compositions that capture the essence of life in its purest form.
My technique involves layering and expressive mark making, resulting in artworks that are both multi-dimensional and unique. While largely self-taught, my artistic journey has allowed me to hone my skills and develop a style that is truly my own.
Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to convey the beauty of nature in a way that is both captivating and deeply emotive. It is my hope that through my art, viewers are able to experience the same sense of wonder and connection to the natural world that inspires me every day.
