American artist in France. Paintings available from Edward Montgomery Fine Art, Carmel, California and L’Encadreur, Dijon, France
MessageBorn in 1969, in Washington, DC., David Williams grew up in the Virginia countryside, about half an hour from Manassas. As a child, he spent as much time as possible exploring the forests and fields around home and grew the child’s adventure around grand-parents homes on the Chesapeake, in Maryland, the mountains of West Virginia and the Keys of Florida.
A professional artist since 1997, David focuses on studio paintings with plein air painting reserved for smaller work. His paintings are recognized for saturated color and richly textured surfaces. His artwork has been exhibited throughout the United States and France and can be found in hundreds of collections. David Williams' artwork is a continuing celebration of form, light and atmosphere.

My artworks are influenced by a love of nature and our place in it. I explore naturalistic landscapes or places which often evoke a sense of nostalgia. Using a simple composition, with a few major shapes as a starting point, a painting begins. Working with oil paint and a limited palette of five or six colors, a natural color harmony occurs. At first, brushwork is broadly applied, then accentuated with generously layered paint, both capturing a rooms ambient light and often creating a sculptural quality. Color, design brushwork, canvas texture and years of painting on location are employed in the studio, each providing layers of richness to the artwork. Visually interpreting a subject in a realistic, yet relaxed style, the viewer has the freedom to interpret and participate.
