MessageI am a visual abstract artist whose journey into painting began in an extraordinary way. In 2015, a life-altering boat accident left me with a fractured back and injuries to both wrists. Before this event, I had never painted. Following my recovery, I discovered an innate talent for creating art—a phenomenon later identified as Acquired Savant Syndrome by psychiatrist Dr. Darold Treffert.
Acquired Savant Syndrome occurs when previously dormant savant abilities emerge due to a brain or spinal injury, unlocking an extraordinary, often prodigious skill set. With only 50 documented cases worldwide, I am part of a rare and fascinating group of individuals often referred to as “accidental geniuses.”
My art is guided by three fundamental principles: color, texture, and pattern. I explore the contrasts within these elements, crafting compositions that range from smooth to streaked, squared to rounded, and shimmering crimson to deep blue. Each painting becomes a vibrant interplay of opposites unified on the canvas.
The process behind my art is deeply spiritual and rooted in the subconscious. My creative journey begins with vivid dreams where I see the colors and structures of my paintings. These visions become imprinted in my mind, guiding me when I start working.
In my studio, I sit on the floor, observing the negative space before selecting colors from my shelves. The paints are laid out and brought to life on the canvas, creating a tangible representation of my dream. My works evolve from the floor to the wall, embodying this dynamic progression.
I am a member of the Art Students League of New York, where I have the privilege of studying under esteemed artists Larry Poons, Ronnie Landfield, and Peter Bonner. Additionally, I continue to expand my practice through The Silvermine Galleries.
My unique artistic journey reflects the transformative power of adversity and the extraordinary creativity that can emerge from the unexpected.
To elevate my healing from the accident I attended several artist residencies, including the Berlin Art Institute in Germany, Casa Na Ilha in Brazil, The Dune Shacks in Massachusetts, and Chateau Orquevaux in France.
