A colony of proboscis bats roosts on a tree trunk. These bats are found in South and Central America, from southern Mexico to Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. They are insectivores that are almost always found near or over slow-moving watercourses.
Colonies typically consist of 5 to 10 individuals, rarely more than 40, and they often line up nose-to-tail in a single file along a branch or beam. Their protective coloration helps them blend in with the tree bark, making them difficult to spot.
