David Vegt was born and raised in Vernon, British Columbia and currently lives Cumberland, British Columbia, Canada. Painting primarily on birch panel with oil paint, David paints in a naturalistic, impressionist style in the likes of earlier representational painters such as Eduard Manet, Ilya Repin, John Singer Sargeant, and Rembrandt van Rijn. David has from a young age been drawn to the traditional style of representational painting of the figure and has had the opportunity to meet and study with contemporary figurative artists Keita Morimoto, Odd Nerdrum, and Vincent Desiderio that are known internationally as accomplished master painters who work in more traditional forms of oil painting . David also attributes much of his learning to his study of the texts "Alla Prima", written by Richard Schmid and "The Academy" by Timothy Rees. David completed a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English and Fine Art from the University of the Fraser Valley, and was awarded the Fine Art Faculty Choice Award, as well as the Jacob-Marco Scholarship of Fine Art. More recently, David was selected as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center Salon Competition in New York, NY, for his painting of his two daughters, and was one of the top ten artists chosen to display work at the Representational Art Conference in Leeuarden, Netherlands. More locally, David has been selected and awarded multiple times by the Federation of Canadian Artists' juried exhibition in 2018 and 2019 for his naturalistic renderings of the Fraser Valley rural country side and self portrait. David has sold works of art to private collectors in Canada, the United States, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Australia.
