John Thorpe, 1813 - 1897, Noted Marine Artist was a UK/US artist in the 19th Century. He lived near Hastings Beach and is known for coastal scenes with exhibits in NY Historical Society, British Institute, Royal Academy, private collections.

John Thorpe painted landscapes and coastal scenes. Of his 172 London exhibits, 39 were in the Royal Academy, 13 in the British Institution, and 26 in the Suffolk Street Galleries. He lived at St. Leonards near Hastings and painted a number of coastal scenes in that area.
