Inspiration can come from anywhere at any time. For David Heatwole the statement "GO TO HELL!" was one of those exclamations that inspired him. With a passion for creating series of works with a similar theme Heatwole spent a good part of 2022 working with a designer to create a line of character designs to go with the new exclamation "NO TO HELL!" Each work of art, or design, tells a symbolic story or has a message but the first three designs seen here say it best.
1.) Just say "NO TO HELL!" as the little devil character is trapped behind a "No" symbol.
Matthew 16:23 "Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
2.) This isn't just your ordinary "NO" symbol. If you look closely, you will see there is more to the burning symbol that the character is attempting to burn up in hopes of getting through to the viewer.
Zechariah 3:2 "The LORD said to Satan, 'The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?' "
3.) The symbolism in this design reveals that the Christian is protected by a symbol made of Gold representing the Trinitarian God and the Church established by Jesus Christ and his early disciples.
Matthew 16:18 "I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it."
It shows the devil masked with a false feeling when really underneath the mask of a smile he holds contempt and hatred from those bound by the Holy Spirit.
