David Boyd, jr. is a representational oil painter who spends his time preserving the Vanishing South in the studio and on location.
MessageNewnan, Georgia- David Boyd, Jr. b. 1973 Boyd attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, receiving a degree in illustration. After college, he returned to his hometown and taught art to middle and high school students for 20 years before pursuing his love of painting full time in 2014 . In 2016 Boyd cofounded The Studio School at Three Hearts farm where he teaches foundations in oil painting and hosts award winning painters for workshops throughout the year. Boyd also teaches workshops across the southeast. In the fall of 2017, he opened The Boyd Gallery in historic downtown Newnan, Georgia. Boyd is the proud father of David Boyd, III (b. 2015) and Aila Boyd (b. 2018) Boyd is an avid outdoor painter and is an active member of several groups including the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast (in which he currently serves as vice president), Portrait Society of America, American Association of Marine Painters, and is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. He is the founder of the Southside Outdoor Sketchers group, SOS, and a founding member of the Society of Seven.
